Return to Sport & Performance Assessments

Bathurst | Physiotherapy Performance Institute

Not sure if you’re ready to return to sport?

These extended sessions provide a structured, objective assessment to guide your next step — whether you’re returning from injury, progressing through rehabilitation, or looking to better understand your performance capacity.

Comprehensive 60–90 Minute Assessments

We offer extended assessment sessions on Saturdays in Bathurst for individuals requiring a more detailed and unrushed review.

These sessions go beyond a standard consultation, allowing time for thorough testing, analysis, and clear planning.

Sporting Background & Approach

With an extensive background in sport and experience working within gym and training environments, our approach combines physiotherapy with performance-based principles.

There is a long-standing involvement in competitive sport, with particular interest in boxing, cricket, and golf, alongside experience across rugby league, rugby union, tennis, and a wide range of athletic settings.

This has developed into an ongoing interest in coaching, programming, and helping athletes balance skill development with strength, conditioning, and load management.

Why book a Saturday assessment?

These sessions are offered by appointment on Saturdays to allow for a more comprehensive and practical review.

They are suited to individuals who:

  • Are unsure if they are ready to return to sport
  • Have had a longer or more complex injury
  • Require a second opinion or structured plan
  • Want objective testing to guide progression

With experience in concussion management, as well as complex knee, lower limb, and shoulder injuries, the aim is to provide clear direction and reduce uncertainty around return to sport.

What is involved?

Each assessment is tailored to your injury, sport, and goals.

Concussion & Return to Sport

Assessment considers the multiple systems affected by concussion, including:

  • Balance and vestibular function
  • Visual tracking and coordination
  • Cognitive load and dual-task performance
  • Reactive ability and response time
  • Sport-specific movement under increasing demand

Testing is progressed in line with symptoms, with the aim of safely building toward full sporting demands.

Lower Limb & Athletic Performance

For lower limb injuries and return to sport:

  • Strength assessment and side-to-side comparison
  • Force plate testing (jumping, landing, asymmetry, power)
  • Movement quality and control under load
  • Change of direction and sport-specific tasks where appropriate

This provides objective data to guide progression and reduce the risk of re-injury.

What you leave with

  • Clear understanding of your current capacity
  • Identification of any remaining deficits
  • Objective data to support decision making
  • Structured plan for return to training and competition
